Getting ready to start growing legal marijuana in Michigan, I purchased a Vivosun 48 x 48 x80 grow tent from Amazon.
Here is my step by step experience with setup.
It took about 5 days to get the tent once ordered with free shipping. 3 business days.
The box does say VIVOSUN on the long sides. Not particularly discreet, but I can live with that. I don’t have to have an explanation for the neighbors anymore :).
The box weighs 32 lbs.
Opening the box, the instructions are right on top and easy to find. All of the pieces are bagged in plastic.
Removed all the parts for the box and plastic bags. Organized parts, made sure all the pieces are there and reviewed the instructions. All of the peices are easy to identify.
The poles do not seem to be overly thick and I would describe them as “light“. Coated a pleasant fluorescent green.
Now I am ready to assemble the grow tent!
The first step in the grow tent setup is to put the frame of the base together.
Before we do that though I want to share something I learned. On the corner connectors, the black dot should face down on the bottom corners and up on the top corners. If this is not correct, all of the pieces will not fit together at the end.
Now that we know about the corners, we can start to put the tent together starting with the bottom frame.
Assembling VIVOSUN 48 x 48 x 80 Grow Tent. The Easy Part!
Connect “A” poles to corners to form the bottom of the tent.
At this point the reality of what size a 4 square foot tent will be. Bigger than I imagined, but I am bad at visualizing space like this. Needless to say it fits in the spot I want it in.
Next connect “B” and “C” poles and connect to corners.
At this point I am about 4 minutes into setting this up. Very quick and easy.
Now adding the top corners and connecting “A” poles.
Here is where I discovered the black dot on the corner pieces denote the top as the last “A” pole would not connect.
The frame once connected, feels sturdy.
Now for the Hard Part
At this point, it is time to put the tent on the frame. This is where a bit of effort goes into the set up. Most of the 32 pounds of the package is the tent cover. It is big and clumsy. Heavy duty fabric.
I would say it took a fair amount of moving the tent around the frame to get it to work. Find a corner and work from there when installing the tent on the frame. Makes the process a bit easier.
Took me about 20 minutes to get the tent on the frame and lined up correctly. This is most of the work of the setup.
When fully seated, the tent will be tight on the frame. Makes the tent solid.
Once the tent is completely installed on the frame, the overall size of the tent becomes clear. Leaves about 16 inches clearance in my room with 8 ft. ceilings. Be aware of any light fixtures or ceiling fans. I would describe this tent as “sizable”.
Getting close to the end, I installed the 3 cross bars to hang equipment from.
The cross bar seems very sturdy to me. I feel comfortable that they will effectively hold the weight of the equipment.
The final step to install the spill tray at the bottom.
In the end, it took me about 30 minutes from start to finish to set up the Vivosun 48 x 48 x80 grow tent for the very first time, by myself.
As mentioned, the hardest part was getting the tent on the frame. It would be easier if there were two people to do it.
Overall, I would say this grow tent will suit my needs nicely. Worth the money in my opinion and I am happy with my purchase so far.
